The steps up to the church are the venue of a yearly race and a fun exercise. The view from the church steps over town and Eyjafjordur fjord and vicinity is well worth the walk.

The farm at Laufás can be traced back to the settlement era of Iceland. It now is a museum and exhibits the way of life of Icelanders at the beginning of the 20th century. The church was built in 1865 and the farmhouse rebuilt in an ambitious style in 1853-1882 and is an example of the gabled farmhouse, although significantly larger than the ordinary Icelandic farmhouse. There is a nice restaurant on the premises.
